The khadi tradition of Cumilla is one hundred years old. At first, there were many khadi weavers but their but their number is declining. As low-cost machine-made khadi took over the market, weavers lost interest to make traditional hand-woven khadi clothes. In addition, price of yarn used to make khadi also increased significantly. In order to help the weavers we have to popularize hand-woven khadi. Khadi traders must take the first step. Selling local products online is the new trend these days and they have to take this opportunity. Khadi sellers and entrepreneurs who are planning to sell khadi products online should work together to promote khadi online. This is very important for the weavers to continue this tradition. If they can earn their livelihood by weaving khadi’s and their sons and daughters will continue this tradition. At the same time, it would become a source of pride for them. A mindset change among khadi sellers as well as support from public and private sector is necessary to make it happen.
